Devout Believers Living Godly Lives Is the ONLY Barrier to the Relentless March To Ungodly Humanism/Socialism and Chaos or Tyranny
A socialistic culture decays because it undermines the individual, the family and the church. When the government meets needs, it does so in the most costly and inefficient ways possible. It also contradicts God’s plan by denying the blessings to the benefactor as well as to the one who benefits. God’s plan has always been to reward:
- Individual efforts, especially as it applies to meeting the needs of others
- Family efforts to meet the needs of each other and the needs of neighboring families
- Church efforts to meet the needs of families.
God can only bless the benefactor AND the one who benefits when they are in close proximity and know each other personally. A distant faceless government bureaucrat steals that blessing.
Today, many churches and synagogues flounder, because the government has usurped much of their responsibilities. Far too many churches and synagogues have a myriad of programs that primarily serve self rather than organized activities specifically designed to meet the needs of others.
The Pilgrims were fond of quoting Scripture. One of their favorites is, “If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.” [2 Thessalonians 3:10 ESV] Among them were a few English Gentlemen—the aristocratic silk shirt with ruffled cuffs crowd In America, they learned to get dirty and work like everyone else.
Personal freedom and consolidation of power, legalized by the government cannot coexist. They are opposing goals with a permanent tension between them. The genius of the Founders created the U.S. Constitution as a nearly impenetrable shield, protecting free people from government abuse.
The slogan “freedom is not free,” is often associated with the sacrifices made by people in the military to protect America from external invasion. Freedom is not free for other non-military Americans either. Freedom is unnatural in cultures of imperfect people. Freedom has not been a natural condition since the Garden of Eden. Unless all Americans are willing to exert the effort to protect freedom, it will inevitably be lost. Since God is the ultimate source of freedom, Judeo-Christian believers individually and collectively must be continuously vigilant and willing to combat any loss of freedom. Each time vigilance is relaxed, freedom is lost.
Founder Samuel Adams proclaimed loudly,
If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home and leave us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; and may posterity forget that ye were our country men.
Although his words targeted the people during the time of the American Revolution, they ring especially true today as applied to the widespread indifference among the Judeo-Christian body of believers. Thomas Paine echoed, “Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigues of supporting it.”
Without God, our culture of cooperation and collaboration collapses into cruel, contemptuous, competition at any cost. “Love thy neighbor” is replaced by love thyself, i.e. survival of the fittest. Moving from capitalism toward socialism means that the freedom to pursue mutual benefits increasingly becomes a demand for perceived “rights” at the expense of others. Working for a reward mentality is replaced by a “something for nothing” mentality.
The choice between material wellbeing and power becomes a demand for both.
Without God, America has no soul. Without a constraining national soul, there can only be chaos or absolute control.
What does it take to wake up the body of believers?
What does it take to wake up the clergy?
